How are Sadiq Khan’s six promised cycleways from 2018 progressing?

As Transport for London announce that construction will soon start on the next phase of C23 (Lea Bridge to Dalston Cycleway), I thought it would be a good opportunity to look at the current status of the six cycleways promised by Sadiq Khan in 2018.

Lea Bridge to Dalston Cycleway (C23)

  • Millfields Park eastbound track completed (summer 2022)
  • Work on Lea Bridge Roundabout is to be completed by October 2023
  • Other sections are likely to start construction later this year

Predicted completion date: early-mid 2024

Hackney to Isle of Dogs Cycleway (C37)

  • Short section built with temporary materials just south of Mile End Station (2020)
  • Minor works completed in the LB Hackney section (2020-2022)
  • Burdett Road section to start construction in spring 2023

Predicted completion date: 2026/unknown
The ‘unknown’ is because LB Tower Hamlets are likely to cause delay to the scheme (or even the partial abandoning of some of it) due to their anti safe streets agenda

Ilford to Barking Riverside Cycleway (C42)

  • Most of the Barking Riverside to Barking section is complete (2021)
  • The following LB Barking and Dagenham sections are funded (as of 2023)
  • The LB Redbridge section is still awaiting funding (as of 2023)

Predicted completion date: late 2023/early 2024

Tottenham Hale to Camden Cycleway (C50)

  • The LB Camden section is complete (2022)
  • The Seven Sisters Road/Tollington Road section (LB Islington) is under construction (2023)
  • Other LB Islington phases are to follow (2023/24)
  • The Finsbury Park to Tottenham Hale section is in the design stage

Predicted completion date: 2025 to 2027

Wembley to Willesden Junction Cycleway

  • A consultation on this is likely by summer 2023

Predicted completion date: 2025 to 2027

Rotherhithe to Peckham Cycleway

  • Public consultation on the Redriff Road section (2019)
  • Funding secured to continue the design of the whole route (as of 2023)

Predicted completion date: 2025/26
